BabaYaya is a straits-Chinese Southeast Asian menu obsessed with Peranakan cuisine. 

The mix of Chinese, Malay & Thai food pays homage to the Nyonyas.

Who or What is BabaYaya?

Babayaya is so named after the straits chinese (Peranakan) who settled in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesian and Phuket in Thailand. They are the descendents of intermarriages between Southern Chinese and Malays in the archipelago. 

A female Peranakan is known as 'nyonya' or ‘yaya’ and a male is 'baba'. 

The old Malay word nyonya, a term of respect and affection for women of prominent social standing (part "madame" and part "auntie"), has come to refer to the cuisine of the Peranakans. 

Most of them settled in Singapore, Penang & Malacca of Malaysia, Phuket in Thailand & Java in Indonesia.
